Our Center participates in Maryland EXCELS which is a Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). A QRIS is a framework used to recognize, assess, improve and communicate the level of quality in early childhood and school-age care and educational settings. QRIS are used to raise the quality of care and education and to support and improve children’s development and teacher competences. A QRIS awards ratings to center and family-based child care and school-age child care settings that meet increasingly rigorous high standards of quality in key areas. EXCELS stands for Excellence Counts in Early Learning and School-Age care. Maryland EXCELS has awarded Hope Grows a level 5 and is committed to reaching the highest level of excellence. CREATIVE CURRICULUM
Our curriculum is based on the nationally recognized Creative Curriculum from the Teaching Strategies. This curriculum is state sponsored and certified.

Philosophy
The educational philosophy of Hope Grows Child Development Center is guided by the standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Play based curriculum, emergent curriculum, constructivism and developmentally appropriate practice are all terms that describe our program.

All of the teachers at the Hope Grows Child Development Center are well trained and qualified with a bachelor’s degree and 120 semester hours of college credit from an Institute of higher education. Additionally all our staff voluntarily participates in the Maryland Child Care Credentialing Program!

My name is Salema Horn, and I am the Owner of Hope Grows Child Development Center, Inc. I currently have three Licensed Child Care Centers in Montgomery County, Maryland in Gaithersburg, and Germantown.
I have been in the Early Childhood Education field for over 26 years. I am grateful for the opportunity to make a lasting impact on each child, family and teacher that enters Hope Grows Child Development Centers’ front door.

Early Childhood Education has been a part of my purpose and passion for over 40 + years. In those years I have been a family child care provider for 17 years, Paraeducator for Stedwick E.S & Watkins Mill High School for 5 years, MSDE Office of Child Care licensing specialist for 15 years, Adjunct Instructor at Montgomery College Early Education for 14 years, Center Director for 4 ½ years, currently serving my 4th year as a board member of the Child Care Commission appointed by County Executive, board member Maryland State Child Care Association for Montgomery County and Montgomery County Workforce for Early Childhood Education. I graduated from Montgomery College AA and BA from Ashford University. To serve in a leadership position to help make a difference for the children, families and educators that care for children every day! This is the goal to make a difference every day because I can’t repeat it tomorrow.
